Violin by David Mawhinney, Co Antrim (OV24097)
This violin was made in Co Antrim, Northern Ireland circa 1980. It features a very attractive one piece, highly flamed maple back. It is finished in an blonde-amber oil varnish and labelled with the maker’s name internally. There is a second label inside (not visible in the photographs) which may suggest it was either finished or repaired by Peter Boardman from Co Down. (There is a repaired crack to the front which is stable).
It has a warm and resonant tone with good volume. Suitable for an advancing classical student or Irish/Scottish Traditional Fiddler.
It is set up with a Wittner tailpiece and Evah Pirazzi strings. A lovely violin at a bargain price.
Comes supplied in a new lightweight case.
